Ash People Shoot
I am immensely proud to share my recent work not for not only a great publication, but also for a great article. Heed Magazine is not your run o’ the mill glossy. Heed is not just edgy editorial and stunning creatives, but it does them with a positive spin — sharing what is good in the world instead of just selling you sex or toys you really don’t have use for.
The feature I shot entitled ‘Ash People’, according the President and Publisher of Heed, Saoul Vanderpool, was inspired by the personal account of someone who was working at the World Trade Center when the devastation actually happend and survived. In particular, the part of the interview where that said that the people’s faces were riddled with ash and soot so thick that you can’t make out ethnicities anymore, just people helping people.
Ten years after the devastation, the lives and heroism of people during that ill-fated day, are still remembered and celebrated. I am not and American and was not here during that day, so all the specials and stories about 9/11 was lost on me. Doing this project felt that I could do my own little tribute to one of the most pivotal days of the culture that I am living in now.
I was also tasked to source the models for this shoot and I am really happy with the people who joined because not only were they physically gorgeous and interesting in their own right, but all of them are good people inside and I am honored to be called their friend.
I am also happy that my signature bleach-mono look has made its magazine debut.
